Abstract

This research and development (R&D) study aims to produce and evaluate the effectiveness of a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) module integrated with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) values, centered on the theme of gold mining. The primary focus of this development is to optimize the creative thinking competencies and communication skills of junior high school students, which were previously hindered by conventional, non-contextual science instruction. Employing the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) framework, the study involved limited trials and comparative field trials at SMP Negeri 1 Dampelas using experimental (N=32) and control classes (N=32).The intervention was conducted over 4 meetings( 2 x 40 minutes each). Data were analyzed descriptively through both qualitative and quantitative methods. Research findings indicate that the developed module is categorized as "highly feasible" based on expert validation, with a readability score exceeding 63 (Excellent), signifying that the material is easily accessible to various student profiles. Statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney U test on N-Gain scores for creative thinking yielded a Significance value of <0.001, confirming a significant difference in improvement between the two classes. Furthermore, Pairwise Comparison results showed consistent enhancement of communicative skills in every session within the experimental class. It can be concluded that the SDGs-based PBL module on the theme of gold mining is an effective instructional instrument for improving students' creative thinking capacity and communication skills in Science subjects
