DEVELOPMENT OF VARK LEARNING STYLE-BASED BIOTECHNOLOGY E-LKPD USING THE PJBL-STEAM MODEL TO ENHANCE GRADE IX STUDENTS' SCIENCE LITERACY

Abstract


Scientific literacy is an essential competence that must be mastered by students in science education. However, the achievement of students’ scientific literacy in Indonesia remains relatively low. One strategy to address this issue is the development of contextual learning media that are aligned with students’ diverse learning styles. This study aims to develop a biotechnology e-LKPD oriented to Visual–Auditory–Read/Write–Kinesthetic learning styles using the PjBL-STEAM model and to examine its effectiveness in fostering junior high school students’ scientific literacy. This research employed a R&D approach using the 4D model. The participants were Grade IX students of SMP Negeri 1 Tahunan, divided into an experimental class and a control class. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, media readability questionnaires, and scientific literacy tests administered as pretests-posttests. The results showed that the developed e-LKPD achieved a high level of validity and met established validity criteria, while media readability was categorized as very good. Implementation of the e-LKPD significantly increased students’ scientific literacy in the experimental class, as indicated by a high N-gain value compared to the control class. The integration of the PjBL-STEAM model with the VARK learning style approach promoted active student engagement and strengthened the linkage.
